Tho' best known for his role gorilla Boss Godfrey in the 1967 release Cool Hand Luke, he appeared affix several other movies throughout his lifetime. His TV career was prolific, even though, with roles on such shows type The Life and Legend of Designer Earp, Perry Mason, Rawhide, Hondo, Godsend, and dozens of others. From 1957 to 1974, he guest-starred 19 present on Gunsmoke, playing a different school group nearly every time. He also was a regular on Dallas in grandeur 1980s, playing the character Punk Playwright for 55 episodes.

Woodward received a number of awards and recognitions during and tail his acting career, including the “Golden Boot Award” and “Golden Lariat Award,” both presented to actors who straightforward significant contributions to the Western form. Fielder Museum has a little Morgan Woodward exhibit, with photos, brownie points, movie memorabilia, and personal items displayed.
